We met, by chance, at The Questors theatre in Ealing simply because I was wearing a summer blazer at an amateur production. The blazer had an SMAE (Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers) badge on the pocket which Ian spotted and came over and introduced himself. We found we both enjoyed aeromodelling and eventually started to compete as Sadler/Russell in FAI teamrace, Goodyear and Class B.

Many happy times followed, competing at club events, the Wharfedale 1000 and the Nats, plus socialising and still attending The Questors.

This friendship, over 55 years, was one of life’s highpoints.
